Las Vegas hospice offering holistic approach to healthcare
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Choosing the right hospice care for yourself or a loved one is an important decision. And there are plenty of options in the valley.
But Unified Care Hospice says it offers something the others don’t, a holistic approach.
Aria Gaston decided to place her mom in the care of Unified Care after becoming unsatisfied with a previous service.
“She was communicating with us a lot better,” she shared with FOX5. “She was picking up her phone, texting, and things like that, And we actually had hope because of the service we received from Unified.”
She continued, “They weren’t managing her pain well and they really treated her like she was just another client.”
Dr. Timothy Beckett is one of the owners of Unified Care Hospice. He says there’s a big difference between holistic hospice and traditional care.
“We have art therapy, companionship, basically the whole idea is to provide anything to the patients we think will allow them to pass more peacefully,” he said.
And one of those methods is Reiki, a technique designed to promote healing and relaxation. One of the reiki masters explains how the practice benefited one of their clients with several ailments.
“I like to work with sound bowls and things like that, so we took her through an experience, we did an hour session and I went through her body, and in the end, she slept better, feels better and she’s actually out of the hospice now.”
Scott Venezia’s mom was hurt last year after falling. He has nothing but praise for the care she’s received and says his mother is particularly excited about one of Unified’s other unique services, pet therapy.
“My mom is really looking forward to that, she loves dogs and she sort of takes on a different energy, we have a grand puppy, so whenever my daughter brings her over my mom is just at a different level, so I think experiencing that and giving her just that peacefulness, I’m really looking forward to that.”
Aria lost her mom in November of last year and feels changing hospice services made her mother’s last days better.
“If I was to say anything to anybody out there, if a loved one is in hospice care, it’s ok if you feel like you’re not getting the care that you need, it is ok to switch.”
