Dozens of Las Vegas drivers busted for failing to stop for costumed pedestrian
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - With Halloween in just a couple of days, Las Vegas Metro Police is trying to make sure trick-or-treaters stay safe.
CCSD Police Officer Keith Habig dressed in bright colors crossed Charleston near Valley View multiple times Tuesday morning. In just the first hour, FOX5 witnessed dozens of drivers whizzing by him as he stood in the middle of the crosswalk, waiting for them to stop. Many of those drivers were immediately pulled over and given $250 tickets.
Officer Habig was disappointed to see how many drivers did not stop for him and hopes that in addition to being aware, kids who trick-or-treat this week will wear bright colors.
“Wear things that people are going to see when they’re out on the streets,” he advised. “If you wear dark colors, you blend into the pavement, so we want to make sure that people are at least able to see you, and we need drivers to pay attention a lot more when they’re on the roadways.”
If your child’s costume is not naturally bright, Officer Habig says glow sticks are a good addition to make them more visible.
