Las Vegas Valley fire crews to help fight Davis Fire near Reno
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - A 34-person team of firefighters from several Southern Nevada departments have headed north to assist with the Davis fire.
The Davis Fire is only 31% contained and is burning at 5,646 acres in size. According to a Clark County spokesperson, the team will leave at 8 a.m.
“Some personnel may be assigned to the task force fighting to protect threatened structures, while others will be assigned to local fire stations in the region to run calls and supplement personnel deployed to the Davis Fire,” the spokesperson stated in a release.
Overall, the Clark County Fire Department is sending four engines and 18 personnel, including a mechanic and a battalion chief. Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, Henderson Fire Department, and North Las Vegas Fire Departments will also send personnel.
Assistant Fire Chief Brian O’Neal said crews were eager to get up there.
“We’ve had an overwhelming response from the valley fire departments,” he said Wednesday morning. “We did receive a request from the state of Nevada to support the fire response in the Reno area. We’ve had hundreds of firefighters want to take on this assignment.”
The wind is expected to pick up on Wednesday, potentially increasing the fire’s ability to spread. All classes in Washoe District have been canceled, and evacuation orders were expanded to South Reno.
UPDATE: Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue posted a photo of the Southern Nevada team on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday morning.
“We want to welcome our southern Nevada strike team that will staff some of our fire stations beginning today while our #TMFR firefighters are on the #DavisFire providing more firefighting capability and capacity,” the post read. “Our community is thankful you are here.”
