City of Henderson honors veterans on National Purple Heart Day
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - On National Purple Heart Day, the City of Henderson honored local veterans for their sacrifice.
Several recipients spoke about their service Wednesday morning at Purple Heart Plaza in Henderson, as did City Councilman Jim Seebock and Representative Dina Titus. Seebock talked about why Henderson, which ten years ago became a Purple Heart City, is celebrating this day.
“We as a city, we as a community, want to always take the time to recognize those recipients, those veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice or have made a sacrifice on behalf of us and the freedoms that we get to enjoy,” Seebock said.
One Purple Heart recipient who spoke with FOX5 described what it’s like being part of ceremonies like this one.
Near the end of the ceremony, Nevada veterans who passed away recently were honored with their names being called alongside a ringing bell, followed by a playing of taps.
“You’re going to tear up. You can’t help it,” he said. “Because these guys that they ring the bell for have given the ultimate sacrifice for the American public.”
