LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Dozens of people staked out a good spot in the shade in Summerlin early Wednesday morning ahead of the community’s 4th of July Parade Thursday.

“We always come out, we try to participate,” Andrew Enk told FOX5. “My son’s going to be marching with the Cub Scouts this year. Pack 312.”

Enk was one of many who arrived even earlier than 7:00 Wednesday morning, when parade organizers said people could start setting up.

“I set the alarm for 4:30 today,” Enk said. “I was out here at 5:00.”

Setting up early was key to dozens of Summerlin residents ahead of the 4th of July parade there.

Enk was not alone in his early arrival.

“They said don’t set up before 7:00, but you know, 20 minutes before 7:00, I’ve got to get to work,” Jimmy Filhan said. “So I figured I’d come out and snag myself what I think is a decent spot.”

The most coveted spots are in the shade, since by the time the parade gets going, it will likely be above 100 degrees outside. On top of the shade, parade-goers are taking their usual heat-beating measures.

“Just lots of water, maybe the ice pack neck coolers, things like that,” Enk said.

Most who talked with FOX5 are confident the heat won’t take away from the parade.

“We’ll be alright,” Filhan said. “It’s only for an hour or so, right?”

“I have a granddaughter. She likes to be out there where she can wave and run out,” another parade-goer said. “She’s a huge Vegas Golden Knights fan, so she likes it when they’re here and can see them really close up, and get all the little goodies that they throw out there.”

The parade begins at 9:00 Thursday morning.
