LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Two children were killed after a driver was speeding and ran a red light, causing a crash involving four vehicles, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said. Police are still looking for the driver.

“It’s unacceptable, and it should be unacceptable to the community that we allow this behavior in our city,” said Metro Police Lt. Tony Cavaricci.

According to LVMPD, the crash happened around 5:13 p.m. near Flamingo and Pecos. Police said the driver of a 2014 Lexus GS350 approached the intersection at a high speed and ran the red light, hitting a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander in the intersection.

Police said the Mitsubishi had a driver, a 30-year-old woman, and four unidentified juveniles inside. Two of the children were taken to the hospital with critical injuries and later died. Two other children suffered minor injuries and were treated and released, police said. The driver was also treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the Lexus left the scene, leaving behind his two passengers, both of which suffered injuries, police said. As of early Saturday morning, LVMPD had not identified the driver.

“We’re still trying to identify the suspect. The suspect fled the scene, so it’s a hit-and-run collision, but we have some of our best detectives out there looking for our suspect right now,” said Lt. Cavaricci.

The two juveniles will be identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office once next of kin is notified.

“All these deaths that we’ve have throughout the year, our holidays are coming up, so it’s going to be an empty seat at the dinner table for all these people that have lost their lives on our roadways this year,” said Lt. Cavaricci.

Family members have organized a GoFundMe to help them through this difficult time.
