Suspect dead after leading police on chase through southwest Valley
LVMPD says suspect stole squad car, carjacked three other vehicles
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - A suspect leads police on a wild ride around the southwest Valley Wednesday morning, before a confrontation with officers left him dead.
It started around 3:45 am with reports of shots fired in the area of Blue Diamond Road and Durango Drive.
Metro says when they arrived, bullets struck at least one squad car, but officers were not hurt.
The suspect not finished yet - not by a long shot.
“The suspect stole the patrol vehicle fled the area and LVMPD patrol vehicle and officers pursued the vehicle to the 7300 block of south Durango,” said LVMPD Captain Joshua Martinez.
That’s where the suspect carjacked the first of three vehicles. He led police to the 8500 block of Durango, where he seized another vehicle. Officers say they saw him threaten the driver with a gun, and that’s when they opened fire. The suspect then stole that car, and got away.
He carjacked a third vehicle at Durango and Windmill.
“At that location Nevada State Police were able to locate the vehicle. An LVMPD officer arrived on scene. The suspect fired a shot which was heard by officers and officers witnessed the citizen in the vehicle being removed was injured,” said Cap. Martinez.
Officers opened fire again, hitting that vehicle several times. Still he kept driving.
The chase ended at Durango and Agate, when the stolen vehicle stopped running. Metro says the suspect still refused to surrender.

“Las Vegas Metro Police Department swat team and crisis negotiators were summoned to the area. Swat officers were able to determine that there was no movement within the vehicle. They made an approach and determined with medical assistance that the subject was deceased.”
No officers were injured. There’s no word yet on the condition of the one carjacking victim believed hurt.
Metro says it will release the names of the officers involved over the next two days. Still no ID on the suspect.
