Police identify driver who died in crash near Red Rock Canyon

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Nevada State Police identified the driver who died in a crash near Red Rock Canyon.

Police said the crash happened Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7:08 p.m. on Red Rock Canyon Road and mile marker 12. This is just north of the scenic loop drive in Clark County.

Investigation revealed that Brandon Tyler Carl, a 21-year-old from Las Vegas, drove a 2018 BMW X3 northbound on State Route 159. According to police, Carl failed to stay in the travel lane.

Police say he lost control trying to correct the vehicle. He left the paved roadway and overturned.

Carl was ejected from the BMW. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels, facing southwest in the desert area.

Police say he died at the scene.

The investigation is being conducted by the Nevada Highway Patrol - Traffic Homicide Unit. 2025 Year to date: The Nevada Highway Patrol Region One (South) has investigated 7 fatal crashes resulting in 7 fatalities.

2025 fatalities data is preliminary and may change/be updated based on final investigation and coroner reports.
