Famed music executive and producer Irv Gotti dies at 54
(Gray News) – Famed music executive Irv Gotti has died at the age of 54, according to Def Jam Records.
The label released a statement about the mega producer’s death on Instagram Wednesday saying, “The extended Def Jam family are deeply saddened at the loss of Irv Gotti.”
Gotti, whose last name was Lorenzo, founded the hip-hop label Murder Inc.
He rose to prominence working with rap artists who went on to become major stars in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
He worked with big acts like DMX, Ja Rule, and Ashanti, among others.
“His creative genius and unwavering dedication to the culture birthed countless hits, defining an era of music that continues to resonate with fans worldwide,” Def Jam said in the statement.
A cause of death was not provided, but TMZ reports Gotti has battled health problems recently and suffered a stroke last year, and has since had to walk with a cane.
“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who were touched by his work,” Def Jam said.
